The University of Cappadocia is Turkey's leading academic institution in the field of sustainable tourism. Based on the principles of sustainable development, the University carries out scientific production, consulting services and practical training activities for the tourism sector. These studies both contribute to local development and lead the transformation of sustainable tourism on a global scale.
The University is the only academic corporate member and official education partner in Turkey of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the global authority on sustainable tourism. In this context, he took an active role in the preparation of the Turkey Sustainable Tourism Industry Criteria (TR-I), developed in cooperation with the Tourism Promotion and Development Agency of Turkey (TGA) and GSTC. TR-I contains mandatory sustainability standards for more than 22,000 accommodation establishments operating in Turkey. The university has also taken leadership in the development of sustainability standards for different components of the tourism sector. In this direction, she has carried out studies to adapt global criteria such as the GSTC Attraction Standard and the GSTC MICE Standard to the context of Turkey. The University, also through the Sustainable Gastronomy Criteria Project, makes a strategic contribution to the preservation of local culinary cultures and the transformation of food systems.
